In week 11, we talked primarily about the benefits and drawbacks of a PLN that can evolve with our career path. In my opinion, a strong and inclusive PLN can be used to help our professional development clearly and directly. As Amber Glauser states in the interview, meeting new people can not only help us to foster different relationships in different areas, but also help us gain some new experience and knowledge. I think that my PLN can be used to help my professional development post-course as well. I have followed some experts and professionals in relation to my major in my PLNs. When reading the posts that they shared, it will not only help me learn more knowledge about my major, but also can help me expand my personal perspectives of my major. In my opinion, it will be beneficial for seeking the job in relation to my major in the future.
From our reading material, “Social Media and Emerging Economies Technological, Cultural and Economic Implications”, the author states that “there is an increasing number of Internet users nowadays who create new social situations and communication behaviors” (Del Giudice, 2013). In my opinion, recently, with the rapid development of online technologies and the increase of the Internet users, our PLNs will provide more professional opportunities to us. Also, my PLN can be relied on to open professional opportunities as well. In my PLNs, I can not only connect with other people in the world and interact with them, but also can showcase my professional expertise and develop my professional identity.
For me, I think I can leverage my PLN in my future endeavors. In my opinion, it will be beneficial for my career development in the future as well. By leveraging my PLN, I will not only find my own online community in order to share ideas or experience with them, but also can build a connection among people who have similar ideas with me and build credibility directly.
As Amber Glauser describes in the interview, she enjoys working with people who can bring challenges to her. In my opinion, in order to expand our PLN via social media platforms into spaces that may be outside of our comfort zone, one of the effective ways for us is to challenge ourselves when building our PLN. In my opinion, this kind of challenges can also make us continuously develop ourselves and expand our knowledge.
